The month of February is full of gift giving opportunities. We have the well known Valentine's Day on the 14th and Mardi Gras on the 24th, but did you know there are many more unique holidays and celebrations in February?
February 4th - Thank a Mailman Day
This is the day that we recognize our mail person that no matter the weather, rain, sleet or snow, will deliver our mail. Take time today to say thanks and return that smile and wave to your mail person.
February 5th - National Weatherman's Day
Even with all the technology advances, forecasting the weather is not an easy task. We depend on the weather person to know how to dress, plan activities, and during severe weather, what precautions to take. Sometimes they can even save our lives. On this day show your appreciation for you local weatherman with a thank you for their never ending pursuit of the most accurate forecast. For the trivia buff, this day was chosen in commemoration of John Jeffries birthday, February 5, 1744. John Jeffries was known as America's first weatherman. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816.
February 10th – Umbrella Day
Today we celebrate the umbrella, one of the most ingenious inventions ever made. The umbrella has been used for over 4000 years. While it's initial purpose was to shelter us from the rain and the heat of the sun, the umbrella is also used for other reasons. For example, a photographer uses the umbrella for directing light, many companies advertise on umbrella, and they can also be part of a fashion statement. Umbrellas come in many shapes and sizes, colors and designs so finding the gift of an umbrella for someone should not be difficult.
February 15th – Singles Awareness Day
Singles Awareness Day was created to celebrate being single. In this month of love and relationships, this day celebrates those who do not have a significant other or are in between relationships. Valentine's Day can make some singles feel left out so this day was chosen for singles to celebrate. Today get together with your other single friends, exchange gifts and enjoy the fact that you are single.
February 20th – Love Your Pet Day
According to the APPMA (American Pet Products Manufacturers Association) 39% of U.S. households own at least one dog, and 34% own at least one cat, so there should be lots of gift giving on this day. Love Your Pet Day is the day to celebrate our pets who give us unconditional love 365 days of the year. Show your pet, whether it be a dog or cat, fish or snake, how much you love them with the gift of a special treat or outing.
